Parade Marshals and Distinguished Faculty Members Announced

The board of Picnic Day 2008: “A Kaleidoscope of Voices” is proud to announce its Parade Marshals and to introduce, for the first time in Picnic Day history, members of the UC Davis academic community that it has chosen to honor with the title of “Distinguished Faculty Member”.

This year, our theme, “Kaleidoscope of Voices” focuses on celebrating the diverse contributions and accomplishments of the Davis community. As such, the board has invited UC Davis alumnae Martin Yan and Davis native Antoinette “Butterscotch” Clinton to be our parade marshals for the 2008 Picnic Day parade.

Those familiar with Martin Yan know him from his beloved Public Television series “Yan Can Cook” and for his many contributions to the world of Asian cuisine. Antoinette “Butterscotch” Clinton is an internationally-renowned singer and beatboxer who first came to national attention as a finalist on the second season of the television show “America’s Got Talent”.

As for this year’s Distinguished Faculty Members, the board has chosen to honor Dr. Virginia Hamilton, Dr. Charles Bamforth and Dr. Andrew Waterhouse for their achievements in the fields of Communication, Food Science and Technology, and Viticulture and Enology respectively.

These distinguished guests will be part of a special presentation ceremony that will take place on the morning of Picnic Day, April 19th, 2008.
